“Entrepreneurship isn’t just for startups—it’s a mindset for life.”
— Mekin Maheshwari
In 2016, Mekin Maheshwari, then a successful tech leader and founding team member at Flipkart—walked away from corporate laurels in pursuit of something deeper: a more entrepreneurial India.
That decision gave birth to Udhyam Learning Foundation, not as an organization, but as a belief. A belief that every young person in India, regardless of background, deserves to think boldly, act courageously, and solve real-world problems.
Fast forward to 2025, and Mekin’s quiet revolution has received one of its loudest recognitions: he’s been named a Senior Ashoka Fellow, one of the world’s highest honours for social entrepreneurs.

Udhyam: From One Vision to Millions of Dreams
Since its founding in 2017, Udhyam has grown from a spark to a movement:
- 3.9 million learners across 12 states have been engaged through our flagship program Udhyam Shiksha, transforming classrooms into labs of curiosity, confidence, and creativity.
- Over 40,000 educators have become facilitators of change, not just teachers.
- Through Udhyam Vyapaar, we’ve supported 6,600+ nano-entrepreneurs, contributing to over ₹28 crore in collective income uplift.
But it’s not the numbers alone that matter, it’s the mindset shift. Students who once feared failure now build businesses. Women from underserved communities are running ventures. Teachers who were bound by rote learning now guide real-world innovation.
Why This Recognition Matters
Mekin’s recognition as a Senior Ashoka Fellow is a nod to something larger than him, it’s a celebration of every learner, teacher, and entrepreneur who dared to think differently. It affirms that mindset change is not abstract; it’s measurable, scalable, and deeply transformative.
Udhyam doesn’t just teach entrepreneurship. It lives it, by embedding action, ownership, and courage into India’s education and livelihood systems.
What’s Next: Scaling Hope, Boldly
As we mark this milestone, we also mark a new chapter. Our work is only just beginning. We’re now:
- Deepening our work in states where systems are ready for bold reform
- Expanding teacher support and curriculum-led doing
- Strengthening Udhyam Vyapaar to unlock more livelihoods through micro-enterprise
We believe in the power of everyday Indians to become extraordinary changemakers.
